Alert Definitions
Each LemonCheck Vehicle History Report provides alerts to crucial data specific
to your enquiry. These alerts are displayed at the top of each report and are supported
by detailed definitions and recommend a course of action. Never ignore this information
or be told it is irrelevant by any vendor.
Chassis Numbers
These numbers can be found on the chassis or frame of the car and it is very important
that you compare the chassis number provided in the LemonCheck Vehicle History
Report with the car itself. If these numbers are different, look interfered with
or “repaired” then treat with suspicion. The chassis number is not a
unique number and the same number can be shared by several different cars. LemonCheck
cannot search a cars history with the chassis number.
Does LemonCheck report on trailers, caravans, motorcycles,
trucks. If it is registered we can provide a trail on most of these assets. We can
usually at least provide security interest details (Money Owing). These types of
reports are not as detailed as the LemonCheck Vehicle History Report but are better
than not doing anything and risk buying yourself a Lemon!!
Free car buying Tips
It's always an exciting time, looking over that new vehicle. However, it pays to
keep your wits about you. Follow our simple guide to ensure you give yourself a
fair chance of securing a fair purchase. Many buyers opt for the unbiased opinion
of a Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection, costing up to $120 per visit. It is cheap
peace of mind for a trouble free life of motoring. In most cases, it pays to have
someone with you during initial vehicle inspection often the second person can pick
up on detail that you yourself may have overlooked in the quest to get the vehicle
of your dreams.
Never commit to a physical inspection prior to doing a LemonCheck Vehicle Title
Check. You don’t want to pay up to $120.00 then find out it is a Lemon for
only $25.00 !! View the LemonCheck used car inspection guide

Is there a Free Number?
No. The Governments Autocheck free calling number ceased operations in 1999. Autocheck
only ever provided you with money owing details on the plate provided, not past
plates or any other details. The LemonCheck Vehicle History Report is quite possibly
the most detailed report available in the world and was developed right here in
New Zealand by Kiwis for Kiwis.
License Plate(s)
The License Plate(s) or Number Plate(s) are fixed to the front and
rear of all registered cars and trucks and one only to the rear of motorcycles,
caravans and trailers. It is an offence to remove or interfere/obscure with either
license plate. Some cars have had multiple past license plates which can hide adverse
ownership, accident, odometer history or worse security interest details (Money
Owing). “Pry…Before you Buy™” with The LemonCheck Vehicle
History Report and these past license plates will be checked everytime: LemonCheck
accepts the License plate or VIN and does not require both to search the
history.
Licensing
Licensing or (Rego) is the fee payable to use the car on a public road. Depending
on the age, weight or engine size this fee varies. If a car remains un-licensed
for more than one year it automatically deregisters the car from the LTSA system.
A deregistered or dormant car is very expensive to get back on the road and should
not be considered for purchase without adding up the costs. Compare the expiry date
in the LemonCheck Vehicle History Report with the actual license label.

Ownership Papers
Do not accept the registration papers or (ownership papers) as proof of ownership
or any other trustworthy information. These papers can be altered and could be unreliable
resulting in an expensive mistake. By law ownership papers do not denote
ownership but merely record transactions therein. Often ownership papers are outdated
and contain unreliable data.

RUC
RUC or (Road User Charges) are a separate tax for diesel powered cars. The car should
technically have a current RUC licence before being sold, if not, you (the new owner)
will be responsible for any unpaid RUCs. If the vehicle is diesel powered it must
display a RUC License that’s end value is greater than the odometer reading.
Ie if the odometer displays 109,123 km then the RUC License should be at least 110,123km
giving 1000 km in credit.

VIN Numbers
All VIN or (Vehicle Identification Numbers) are unique and are exactly 17 characters
in length. These characters are a mixture of numbers and letters. No VIN number
has the letter o or i and should be recorded as the number 0 or 1. VIN numbers can
be found on plates riveted to the chassis or frame, stamped into the chassis or
firewall and/or etched on the bottom left corner on the rear window. LemonCheck
accepts the License plate or VIN and does not require both to search the
history.

WOF
All vehicles intended for use on a public road must display a current or valid WOF
(warrant of fitness). All cars that are less than 5 years old are required to renew
the WOF every twelve months and all fresh imports are the same. All other cars must
renew the WOF every 6 months. Often the WOF labels are stolen and put on cars that
are unsafe or in need of major repairs. LemonCheck advises that any car you intend
to purchase is issued with a New WOF prior to handing over your money. It
is a requirement by law that all cars display a WOF not exceeding 28 days old unless
the vehicle is clearly offered as-is where is. LemonCheck advises the WOF expiry
date and whether the last WOF inspection failed.
